WISPR Systems Unveils the SkyScout 2 Series: Raising the Standard for American-Made Drones

Friday, 12 September, 2025

At WISPR Systems, innovation is about more than just building drones. Rather, it’s about anticipating the needs of professionals who rely on unmanned aerial vehicles (AUVs) every day. With the launch of the new SkyScout 2 and SkyScout 2+, WISPR is pushing the boundaries of autonomy, compliance and reliability, while staying true to its commitment to American-made manufacturing.

Vice president of sales and marketing John McArthur recently shared how the company’s latest advancements are shaping the future of UAV technology and why the SkyScout 2 series is a game-changer for the surveying, mapping and inspection industries.

Smarter Technology, Built for the Field

The SkyScout 2+ represents a major leap forward from the original platform. The new model is currently pending Blue UAS listing, which McArthur describes as the highest level of regulatory compliance available, marking a pivotal milestone for our business.”

Beyond compliance, the SkyScout 2 series introduces innovations that make real-world missions faster and more reliable. The SkyBoss controller available on the SkyScout 2+ is a rugged, advanced hand controller, giving pilots unmatched command and flexibility. New features like TempGuard dynamic climate control ensure stable performance in challenging conditions, while PathGuard long-range obstacle detection adds another layer of safety and mission success.

The integration of TerrainSense live terrain following and a downward-facing LiDAR sensor further enhances autonomy, allowing the drone to adapt in real time to changing landscapes. Coupled with a best-in-class GNSS antennacapable of both RTK and PPK photogrammetry, the SkyScout 2 delivers centimeter-level precision with seamless connection to any NTRIP-compatible base station.

Designed and Built in the U.S.A.

For McArthur, one of the most important differentiators is where the drone is made.

“It’s important for WISPR Systems to manufacture UAVs in the U.S. because it allows us to maintain strict quality control, faster product development cycles, and more reliable customer support,” McArthur said. “By designing, assembling and testing at the company’s headquarters in Batesville, Mississippi, WISPR can respond quickly to customer needs while ensuring every unit meets the company’s exacting standards.”

For customers, that means shorter lead times, consistent quality and direct access to the very team that builds the equipment. It also underscores WISPR’s long-term commitment to supporting American innovation in the UAV space.

Listening, Learning and Leading

The SkyScout 2 series was developed in close collaboration with WISPR’s long-standing partners who had flown the original SkyScout extensively. Their input shaped the upgrades, from the new payload integration system to enhanced flight autonomy. McArthur said the feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive.

Looking ahead, WISPR is focused on what comes next for the industry. McArthur sees three major trends shaping the UAV landscape: a push toward greater autonomy, an increased emphasis on regulatory compliance and security and growing demand for turnkey solutions that integrate aircraft, payloads, software and support into one seamless package.

“With the launch of the SkyScout 2 series, we are delivering systems that combine regulatory readiness, advanced autonomy and unmatched ease of use — all designed around the needs of surveying, mapping and inspection professionals,” McArthur said. “WISPR is not just releasing a new drone—we’re building a platform for the future: compliant, field-read and developed hand-in-hand with the customers who rely on it.”
