UST Spotlights WISPR Systems’ Next-Gen Platform for Professional Mapping & Inspection

Thursday, 16 October, 2025

Unmanned Systems Technology (UST) recently profiled how WISPR Systems is advancing professional UAS with the SkyScout 2 / 2+ platform—highlighting our operator-first design and a growing payload ecosystem that powers real work in surveying, mapping, infrastructure inspection, and more.

What’s New in the SkyScout 2 Series

UST’s feature calls out upgrades designed to make field crews faster and more confident on mission: advanced obstacle awareness (PathGuard), active thermal management (TempGuard), redundant clean power distribution (SmartCore), live terrain following (TerrainSense), and hardening for electromagnetically noisy sites via SignalShield—all tied together by S-Port, a quick-attach interface that carries power and data for rapid payload swaps. On SkyScout 2+, the SkyBoss smart controller adds a bright, field-readable display and enterprise-grade controls in a rugged package.

Built Around the Payloads Professionals Use

Our approach starts with the deliverable—high-quality data decision-makers can act on. UST highlights integrations such as LiDAR (RESEPI, YellowScan), mapping cameras (the Sony ILX-LR1 and the WISPR 24MP Mapper), and dual-sensor options like Vio. Teams can move from dense point clouds to readable inspection imagery without changing airframes, and a co-developed LR1 gimbal further streamlines survey and inspection workflows.

Where the Industry Is Heading

Looking ahead, the piece points to autonomous operations—combining drone-in-a-box concepts with broader BVLOS approvals—as a major unlock for large-area mapping and repeatable inspections. Pair that trajectory with an American-made supply chain and a robust partner ecosystem, and you have the path to deploying uncrewed systems at scale.
